Electrical estimating software and app for residential service

Electrical estimating software for residential service builds estimates for panel changes, EV charger circuits and surge protection, with options. TierMenu is not commercial takeoff software.

Who it is for

Residential electricians who assess a home and quote panel, circuit and protection work with clear options.

Not a fit if

You estimate commercial jobs from drawings, or need load calculations. Those need different tools.

Panel changes, EV chargers and surge protection

These three jobs are common residential quotes and each benefits from options. A panel change might be offered as a like-for-like replacement or an upgrade with added capacity. An EV charger circuit can be a basic run or one with a longer route and extra protection. Whole-home surge protection often sits as an optional add-on to a panel job. TierMenu lets you build each as separate options with add-ons, so the homeowner compares real choices. Whether the service can carry a new load is a question you answer on site; TierMenu records the scope you decided and the price you set.

Begin with a site assessment

Confirm the customer and service location, then record what the technician observed and what the homeowner asked to solve. Electrical scope can depend on existing equipment, circuit condition, access and local requirements. Do not assume that a particular repair or replacement is appropriate until the qualified person has evaluated the site. If the scope is not yet known, create an assessment or diagnostic step instead of a final work estimate. This keeps the proposal honest and avoids presenting an unverified solution as a confirmed result.

Select company-approved tasks

Search the price book for tasks that match the defined scope. Check the customer-facing description, labor assumption and included materials, and avoid bundling unrelated work into one generic line. A clear estimate lists the work in a way the homeowner can compare. Formula prices use the company's labor rate, labor hours, material costs and markup settings. Owners can review costs and margin; technicians see the approved customer price without those private figures. Your company supplies and approves the prices rather than relying on generic rates.

Show legitimate alternatives

When the site assessment supports different approaches, describe them as separate options. Explain the scope and assumptions that distinguish each one, and use a recommended label only when the technician can support the recommendation. Keep optional add-ons separate so the customer can see what is included in the base choice. Do not claim an outcome, capacity or compliance result that has not been verified. TierMenu can present up to four options and a remote or on-device signature, but the contractor remains responsible for the electrical judgment behind each proposal.

Check the document before requesting a signature

Review the customer name, service address, option names, task descriptions, assumptions, exclusions, tax settings and totals. Read the estimate as a homeowner will see it and remove shorthand that only the technician understands. Present the proposal on a phone or tablet or send a link for remote review. TierMenu saves the selected option and signed PDF. If the agreed work changes after approval, create a revised proposal or change order and capture the updated authorization rather than altering the signed record.

Use an estimating app for the work it supports

TierMenu supports small electrical service and replacement estimates, price books, proposals, maintenance agreements and simple invoices. It does not take off quantities from construction drawings, schedule or dispatch crews, run accounting or process payments. Use dedicated tools for those processes and keep engineering or code calculations under qualified review. Before adopting the workflow, test a representative estimate, review the exported PDF and confirm the proposal terms with your company’s legal or compliance adviser.

Keep technical calculations separate from the quote

A quote may include work whose suitability depends on a calculation, inspection or approval outside the estimating screen. Complete that technical review using the appropriate method, then select price-book tasks that match the confirmed scope. Note any outstanding condition the homeowner should understand, and avoid describing an estimate as a final design when it is not. TierMenu can link a proposal to a clear customer record and capture a signature, but it cannot validate wiring, load, equipment compatibility or permit obligations. Separating the technical decision from the commercial presentation makes the estimate easier to review and less likely to imply unsupported certainty.

Give the office enough context to follow up

A useful electrical estimate should make sense to staff who were not present for the inspection. Use a clear location, a specific task name and a customer description that explains the proposed work without disclosing private cost inputs. Record assumptions that affect the quote and identify any step that still depends on inspection or approval. Before sending, open the PDF and check that options and totals are easy to distinguish. When the homeowner asks a question later, the office should be able to point to the accepted scope rather than reconstructing the technician's conversation from memory.

How it works in TierMenu

  1. Step 1

    Assess the home

Record the panel, circuits and what the customer wants.

  2. Step 2

    Build options

Add tasks for the base job, an upgrade and optional add-ons.

  3. Step 3

FAQ

Can technicians make electrical estimates in the field?

Yes. Technicians can select approved tasks from the price book, assemble options and present the estimate on a phone or tablet. They do not see private owner cost values.

Does the app calculate electrical loads or code compliance?

No. It does not replace technical calculations, a site inspection or licensed judgment. Use appropriate tools and verify requirements before offering the work.

Can customers sign estimates remotely?

Yes. A proposal link lets the customer review the options, select an option and sign. TierMenu stores the selection and signed PDF.

Can it estimate commercial electrical projects from plans?

No. TierMenu is for service and replacement quotes and small jobs. It does not perform commercial blueprint takeoff or project bid management.

Are prices included for electrical tasks?

No. Your company supplies labor, material, markup and sell prices. The starter library provides names and descriptions only.
